Day 1

We will depart Launceston at approximately 1:00pm for a two-hour drive through the rolling green countryside of northern Tasmania to Cradle Mountain. As we near Sheffield, the rugged Mt Roland dominates the horizon and whets the appetite for the coming week-long journey through the best photographic landscapes Tasmania has to offer. Upon arrival at the Cradle Mountain Chateau, we will have a briefing on the week’s itinerary and a talk regarding best camera settings for our first shoot. We will have dinner and then head for a dusk shoot at Dove Lake, with the iconic Cradle Mountain on the southern horizon.

Day 2

An early start this morning, searching for that magic morning light on Cradle Mountain, again at Dove Lake – so pick your favourite spot from last night’s shoot. After a full buffet breakfast, Luke will present an post-processing session, followed by some free time. After lunch, we spend some time immersed in this ancient landscape – walking amongst the gnarled and timeless Myrtle and King Billy Pine rainforest, watching the cascades of the dark tannin stained rivers and admiring the intricate details hidden within this glacier created landscape. After dinner, we head to Ronney Creek to photograph Tasmania’s unique wildlife, including wombats, wallabies and echidnas.

Day 3

(Back-up sunrise shoot, should the weather permit us photographing the sunrise the day before). After breakfast, there will be a chance to visit Cradle Mountain’s renowned ‘Wilderness Gallery’, followed by a trip to the ‘Devils at Cradle’ Wildlife Park, where there will be ample close-up opportunities to photograph the incredible Tasmanian Devils. After lunch, we visit the famous Waldheim Cabins, where you can photograph rustic old huts. After dinner, we will have a final sunset shoot at Dove Lake, this time from the vantage point of Glacier Rock.

Day 4

We depart Cradle Mountain today, bound for the Freycinet Coast. We will not spend the whole day in the bus, however, and will break the drive neatly with a stop at Liffey Falls, in Tasmania’s Great Western Tiers – a series of rugged dolerite bluffs and boulder fields. Liffey Falls is one of Tasmania’s most beautiful waterfalls, with numerous cascades and rock pools set amid some beautiful Tasmanian rainforest. We will arrive at our accommodation at Bicheno at around 6pm, followed by a hearty dinner.

Day 5

Today will be unforgettable! We will  head to Coles Bay at Freycinet and jump onboard a half day cruise on and around Wineglass Bay. This will be not only a chance to shoot sea life such as leaping dolphins, seals and soaring sea eagles, but also just to sit back and enjoy one of Tasmania’s iconic locations from a vantage point that most people don’t get. The cruise includes a tasty lunch with mostly local produce.

In the afternoon, we will head to Friendly Beaches to do a reccy for our next morning’s sunrise shoot, followed by some free time. Dinner will be at the Freycinet Lodge, overlooking the ocean. After dinner, there will be a sunset shoot at beautiful Bicheno Beach.

Day 6

Today we will tick a few of the boxes of “must-see” attractions at Freycinet. We start with an early start shooting a sunrise at Friendly Beaches, followed by a tasty breakfast. We will then have a few hours of free-time, allowing you to prepare for our image critique session.

After lunch, we give you an option of hiking up to the platform overlooking stunning Winegalss Bay, with its sandy white beaches and aqua-coloured water. Alternatively, you can enjoy a leisurely trip to Cape Tourville (bus, then a short walk) and view the coastline from high up, followed by a visit to the very photogenic Sleepy Bay.

Michael and Luke will then present an informative image-critique session at Freycinet Lodge, followed by a gourmet dinner at the Lodge.

After dinner, we will venture out to Coles Bay, overlooking the iconic Hazard Mountains, for our final sunset session.

Day 7

If the weather stopped us doing a sunrise shoot the day before, we have a back-up sunrise shoot planned for this morning. If the shoot the day before was successful, you will deserve a sleep-in!

After breakfast, we drive to Hobart, arriving at approximately midday. You can be either dropped off at the airport or into town (if you are staying on).

Say our goodbyes and end of workshop….
