On Sunday the 9th of November 2008, I launched my book “Wildlife of Australia – a nature photographer’s journey” in conjunction with Wildlife Australia Magazine’s 45 year celebration (WAM45). The event was held in the evening at the Griffith Eco Centre in Brisbane and was attended by nearly 80 people. The master-of-ceremonies was Simon Baltais, current President of the Wildlife Preservation Society of Queensland and the night included speeches by Adrian Caneris (past President of WPSQ) who spoke about WAM’s 45 year history. Glen Threlfo, my photographic mentor in the early days, a respected wildlife photographer and nature documentary-maker, did a brief presentation on some of our photographic experiences together. My presentation was last and featured an audio-visual display of images from my book, with explanations on how I achieved particular photos. I ended the night with some book sales and signings. WPSQ also had stalls and displays set up, food and drinks were served and the weather was kind to us. A great night had by all! On Monday the 17th Of November 2008, I was guest presenter at the Brisbane Camera Group’s “Digital Sub Group”, with over 130 people in attendance. My audio-visual presentation was titled “My journey so far” and included a selection of wildlife images taken over the last 11 years. The third and last presentation was a series of nature-based audio-visuals by my friend Darren Jew, who also worked tirelessly on the image preparation for my book.
The next day, I headed to the Bunya Mountains in Queensland, for a three day photo-shoot, with nature photographer Paul Huntley. The weather over the three days was quite varied and included thick mist, evening thunderstorms, blue skies and amazing sunsets. Highlights included photographing a male Satin Bowerbird displaying at his bower.

Rainforest – the secret of life
Respected nature documentary-maker David Warth’s latest documentary “Rainforest – the secret of life” features my photography on the front and back cover of the dvd jacket. David has been a friend for many years and I was with him during the filming of many segments of this documentary, photographing along side him. It also features footage by my photographic mentor, Glen Threlfo. The documentary will be shown prime time on the ABC in the not-too-distant future and is also now available as a dvd in ABC shops throughout Australia. It also recently won a “Gold Award – Wildlife and Nature Films” at the Australian Cinematographer’s Society Awards. Congratulations, David!
